The Osama-oops-Obama technique is one repeated over and over on Faux News (and elsewhere) in what appears to be an attempt to imply that Obama has some sort of connection to terrorism. That's bad reporting and reveals an obvious bias. This comes as no surprise to anyone who's paying attention.
But openly wishing for the assassination of a presidential candidate - even if it is a joke - is beyond the pale. Hate speech has no place on a news network, even one that's only marginally newsy.
The best way to prevent a network from condoning this type of speech is to hit them where it hurts - by affecting it bottom line. This has worked in the past; outrage over Don Imus's racist comments caused advertisers to back out of his show, leading to the temporary cancellation of his show. This can work, but it can only work if we as consumers write letters to both the sponsors and Fox News telling them why we think they should withdraw their support for Fox and Trotta, and that we will be unable to support them if they continue to advertise.
I will attempt to keep an accurate list of current Fox sponsors as well as contact information for the appropriate people there and at Fox, but I will need your help in both the data gathering and in checking for accuracy. I don't want to harm a company based on false information, so it's important that we are careful about who we list here. I'll start with lists from other websites and then will attempt to verify this - even if it means I have to watch Fox News for a while to do it.
I hope you will help.
Also: I'm not an anti-Fox crusader per se. I will be applying the same standards to all media outlets, and will probably, eventually, include sponsor lists from other networks that lack journalistic integrity. I'm just starting with Fox because they're the most obvious offender at the moment.
